This same monk, Padre D., a most excellent man and true Christian, whose life is spent in deeds of self-abnegation and charity, said to us: "I have lived many years in the East, and I assure you that I have seen the Christian name so uniformly profaned by its professors that when I hear any one in the street say of me 'That is a Christian,' old man and Cappucino monk as I am, I feel inclined to go up and hit him with my stick."
