A PETITION FROM MITE
APOSTOLOV MATOVSKI TO THE
MINISTER OF WAR FOR THE LIBERATION OF HIS SON MIHAIL MITEV (MIHAYLO
APOSTOLSKi) FROM GERMAN CAPTIVITY
Shtip, July 23, 1941
Dear General,
My son, MIHAIL
MITEV, active major in the headquarters of
the Drava division in Liubliana, was captured in the present war near
I am taking the
liberty to ask you most politely,
General, to be so kind to order the necessary steps to be undertaken,
so that my son, who is Bulgarian, born by Bulgarian parents in the town
of Shtip, to be set free.
Dear General, I
take the liberty to add, that I am one of
the first good Bulgarians from the town of Shtip, I have worked for
Bulgaria and for the Bulgarian spirit, and in the World War I was
a
volunteer from the Bulgarian army and was wounded at the Albanian
border by an enemy bullet, and due to this wound I am now disabled.
After my home-coming from the war I found my property destructed and
sacked, so I became an ordinary shoemaker, and my numerous family lived
in scarcity.
The only
expectation and consolation for me and for my
family was my son Mihail, who is now a captive and who joined the
Serbian army not for love to the country, but like a member of a very
poor family, in order to find there temporary living with an
expectation that the country some day would join the Motherland and
then he could serve to our beloved Bulgarian Tsar and the country.
I am looking
forward my petition to be satisfied, and I
remain sincerely yours. With respect:
Mite Apostolov

A LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT OF BCCC TO STEPHAN
CHAPRASHIKOV
Dear MISTER
CHAPRASHIKOV,
Your decision - to
make a trip round
Be welcome, feel
love to our beautiful people here, give
them your heart, work for the wellbeing of the whole nation - and you
will complete your mission here in the most favorable way!
Round
The problems that
agitate the Bulgarian people here, are
the following:
1.
Millions of kilograms of
food, not less than 10 000 000 kilos should be sent as soon as
possible. One part of this quantity should be at disposal to the
Bulgarian territories under Italian rule, and their transportation
should be arranged by the by the respective Bulgarian authorities,
and
to insist before the Italians not to touch, the food intended for our
population.
2. As soon as
possible the supply of essentials should be
arranged: sugar, salt, soap, fuel and oil, which should be distributed
with coupons, in order to avoid speculation, and the poor to be
able
to obtain some for themselves.
3.
As soon as possible
should start the construction of roads and railroads, schools and other
public buildings in order to provide jobs for thousands of workers, who
were placed in a miserable situation after the lightning war and
victory of Adolph Hitler.
4.
Material support should
be provided to the clerks and the teachers until they start work again.
Hundreds of teachers and clerks should be sent to help to the local
intelligence to start work immediately, not only in respect of the
language, but also in respect of law and administration. To this
purpose let all respective clerks from
5.
Prices in leva to be
established all over
6.
A 1:60 exchange rate to
be adopted for small quantities. To stop the import of big amounts of
banknotes from
7. To start even
partially the repayment of the bank
deposits of the small savers, because they suffer mostly.
8.
All Serbians should be
sent away and their property should be confiscated for the poor
Bulgarians here, or be restituted to the people, whose it was.
9. Lots of
activities should start for the maximum use of
the stamina of the Macedonian Bulgarian, of the rich Macedonian soil,
of the natural open and underground resources, which are great,
according to Serbian and Greek scientists. The wealth: cotton, opium,
rice, silk, cattle breading, fruit growing, etc., should be developed
and increased in order to relieve the slate budget of worries for
10. The transport
to be arranged in a way that the
movement of people and goods should be fast.
11.
The cultural and
educational work in
12. The oppression

13.
The Ministry of War
should do everything possible for the Bulgarian Macedonians - prisoners
of war to be set free, as well as those from the
14.
Attention should be paid
to people's health, which hero was badly shaken because of the Greek
and Serbian regime.
15. The best
administration should be sent here and the
local clerks should be incorporated in it.
16. The affairs of
The Bulgarian
economy could satisfy all of these needs,
as it is arranged according to the German system, and since there is no
possibility for import and export of Leva, our economy could carry such
an additional burden.
The Bulgarian
experience and the spirit of the greatest
revolution in the world, led by the great Fuhrer Adolph Hitler,
require a new attitude and regulation by the state to the liberated
from oppression Bulgarian lands; the inveterated understanding has
to
be eliminated, and thus the work to be finished constructively.
Let the
administration think not that the laws made for
free people, could and must be applied immediately and integrally
in
the free lands too, where everything was upside down until recently.
Let the committees
remain - to do their work, to be
controlled by the government, to receive directives from it, but not to
be destroyed, because such an act would be an offense towards those who
in fact showed their devotion to the Tsar, state and people, and
created in Bulgarian rule and its authority at a time, when the
Ministries in Sofia had no idea for what was happening in the first
days of the German occupation in Macedonia.
1 am informing you
for all that, dear Mr. Chaprashikov,
because 1 know, that you have a stateman's view of all these and
because I believe that you would like...

A LETTER FROM VASSIL HADZHIKIMOV TO THE COMMANDER OF THE BULGARIAN ARMY IN MACEDONIA OF THE MOTIVES FOR THE CREATION OF THE MACEDONIAN BULGARIAN CAMPAIGN COMMITTEES
General,
In connection with
my tour round
1. The people
accept the idea for the consultation body
at the municipalities very well. In this respect until today there are
not big results, especially in the villages. In some places the
citizen’s committees were taken as a base, and in others (Gevgeli,
Kavadar, etc.), the latter play the role also of council bodies, and of
real nests of the Bulgarian political thought and Bulgarian culture,
which, nobody could deny, Macedonia needs.
The citizens'
committees have to be regarded in this
sense if they will not be left to exist together with the council
bodies, as a form of the citizens' unity and creativity, which allow a
social manifestation of the people, and establishing on a broader basis
a lively contact between it and the state in the face of its
bodies.
That is how the authorities in Gevgeli and Kavadar understood them
and
where with their assistance they were transformed and replenished with
new people, since at the time they were created by causal personalities.
My request is that
the committees are left to function
along with the council bodies, so that the people could participate
more actively in them, as a guarantee, that the political
criterion
would not degenerate. The Bulgarian Central Committee will stop
functioning latter, of course, as not it is still needed. Thus the
citizens' committees shall not be limited to the limits they have in
older
Thus, I believe,
we will be at last understood. That we
are not enough understood and appreciated I realized from the situation
in the Bulgarian club in Salonica. The members of this club - the
presidents (Yaranov, Chaushev and Beshevliev) had the full moral
and
material support of the state, although they did not do even a fourth
of what we did here. Why are we measured in different ways? I do not
understand. When we have to ask for days for a sliver, the people there
have at their disposal hundred thousands Levas, cars, airplanes, etc.
Despite that they arc not successful, because it is not only money
which determines the success of an initiative. We are not sure even for
our own living - I have in mind me and the President.
2. On my way to
Salonica, I passed through Lerin, Voden,
and Enidzhevardar. In the first two towns, under the Greeks nose I
formed committees, and gave the needed directives to the elected
people. In Enidzhevardar, because of the strong influence of the
Bulgarian club in Salonica I did not want to interfere in foreign
domains. My impression is that the Greeks have managed better with
the
assimilation, than the Serbs. The Bulgarian national spirit
glimmers,
and it will be difficult one day, if we obtain these lands, to access
them to Motherland
Interpreters are
also needed interpreters for this
region, and mat.* intellectuals from
I do not want to
overburden you with the enumeration of
all the needs. But there is an important fact, which I cannot pass:
because of Greek's cruelties (pulling out of eyes, cutting noses, and
ears of the captured German soldiers), the attitude of the German
authorities towards them has changed. This has to be used and
underlined by our people - that only in the face of the Bulgarians from

Dear brothers,

But along with
that, dear brothers, due to the economic

and habits, remainders from party quarrels of the former regimes,
numerous elements of demoralization and

more, since all of us are inspired by the idea for common prosperity of
the country and the people.
First of all, the
personal prejudice and ambitions in the

categorically condemned. Everybody must know his place and to show
himself by his personal qualities with understanding, and not by force.
Here the merits towards origin and motherland could be taken under

essential. In the contemporary slate priority have, without rejecting
the moral, the knowledge, the capacity of everybody taken
