Good morning to all and...........what a beauty!!!

I am talking of course about a book, a book by the title ""HISTORY OF ANCIENT AND CONTEMPORARY MOSCHOPOLIS""  by Konstantinos X. SKENDERIS.

His first attempt to publish it in 1905 didn't have a succesfull end, due to the fact that the Turks, masters of the land those days, censored it to such a degree that its publication became worthless.

However in 1925 the author living by then in Florina, published the 2nd edition of his book with all the informations censored by the Turks plus many more. In it there is a chapter regarding the Arch-Bisopric of Axrida its History and its Bishops that actually were the Arch-Bishops of the area.

That area of course is the one full with mountains between the two Via-Egnatias, the upper beginning at the ancient port of Epidamnos or Dyrrachion (Durres) and the lower one beginning at the port of Aylon (Aylona). The areas between those two Roman routes were the first to be subject to the introduction of the Latin language once Makedonia has fallen around 150 B.C. Their language was modified into what became better known as the Mother Vlachian of all the other Vlachian dialects and idioms or better the KUTSOVLACHIAN language containing 52% of words of Hellenic origins  including Homiric and Ancient Makedonian, and a little over 39%  of words of Latin origins many of which were common in that language and in the ancient Makedonian. ( Lyngos posted the Homiric words and the ones common in the Latin and Ancient Makedonian language). From MOSCHOPOLIS after her Vlachs moved to the North --after the 1770s as we saw -- and brought with them that PURE LATINO-MAKEDONIAN language to KRUSOVO AND MEGAROVO-MONASTIRI. From SKENDERIS book I'll post selected paragraphs from the chapter  "THE ARCH-BISOPRIC OF AXRIDA."

At times  I'll use the term Arch-diocese as it corresponds better when references are made to other Bisoprics around Axrida. I will also indicate when there is mention of MHTROPOLITANS---EPISKOPANS ETC.

Remember that the language of the ARCH-BISHOPRIC was the Greek one, that of the gospel. The VLACHS were speaking at home the Vlachian and out of it the Greek, the SLAVS were learning the gospel in Kyrillos' or better in KLIMIS language. There are not mentions of ANY KIND OF A MAKEDONIAN CHURCH and I am talking from 284 A.D till the arrival of the SLAV SERBS who eliminated the ORTHODOX  BISHOP OF KRUSOVO in 1914.

I will include all the available names of  the Archbishops all the way to its abolition.

To the ones of you out there understanding the significance of such records and inforamtions I recommend to save the ones I am about to give you. You can not find them every day and I don't know if SNEGAROV has all the names in his book under the same title as the one above. Here we are. Translation by Lyngos, all the mistakes are mine........:))

The Ex-Bisopric was elevated, during the reigns of Bishop THEODORITOS in 535 A.D. with an Order (Neara) of the Emperor Justinian born in the area of LICHNIDOS ( AXRIDA) in the Makedonian Illyria,  and became ARCHBISOPRIC called FIRST JUSTINIAN  including MAKEDONIA SECUNDA (SECOND) and ALBANIA as it was known BEFORE the arrival of the Bulgarians.

152 years later the first Bulgarians arrived (L.note..remain to be seen what kind of Bulgarians they were) around 685 A.D during the reigns of KONSTANTINOS PWGWNATOS.

At that time for the first time was added the title of "BULGARIA" unknown during the times of Justinian.

And after the arriving of the SERBS was added the title of SERBIA too.

It became under Justinian by law an AUTOCEPHALUS Church that of the First Justinian and remained as such even after the arrival of the Bulgars in 685. According to Anna Komnene the Bulgars arrived in Lychnidos as raiders and re-named the city and the Bisopric by the name AXRIDA.

However being  ETHNIKOI (non Christian believers), did not see the need to have an Arch-Bishop or even a Bishop till 865 A.D 180 years after their establishment when they became Christians with KIRILLOS and METHODIOS and they RE-ESTABLISHED  the ARCH-BISHOP in Axrida of the FIRST JUSTINIAN.

Under him were the Bishops (MHTROPOLITANS) of:
VELEGRADWN--KORYTSAS and SELASFOROU--KASTORIAS--GREVENWN--SISANIOU--PELAGONIAS--VODENWN and of the city of TIVERIOU
and the Bishops (EPISKOPOI) of :
AYLWNOS--KANINWN--GORAS and MOKRAS--DEVRWN--PRESPWN--KITSAVWN--MOLESXOU--MOGLENWN and KATRANITSAS--VELESSOU--DEVOLEWS--KOLWNIAS before this last one was elevated in BISOPRIC (MITROPOLIS) of KORYTSA and SELASFOROU.

In the UPPER ILLYRIA was created the ARCH-BISOPRIC of IPEKION (IPEK--PEK--PEC) which during the reigns of Emperor THEWDOROS THE LASKARIAN became also an AUTOCEPHALUS CHURCH.

Under this Arch-Diocese were the Bisoprics ( EPISKOPES) of:
DIAKOVA--GOUNISA--PLAVA--KLEMENTI--SKODRA--KROIA--MITROVITSA--PRISTINA--POTGORITSA and ANTIVAREA  all the way to KALKADELI and also the Bisoprics (MHTROPOLIS) of :
RASKOPRESRENA--NYSSA--VELIGRADION--SKOPIA--VOSNIA--ERSEKION--UZETSA--KIOSTENTELIO--SAMAKOVO--GENI OR NOVI PAZAR--TZETINA (MONTENEGRO) and many more arriving being under Austria .

Both ARCH-BISHOPRICS were abolished in 1767 and became part of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Last Arch-Bishop of IPEK was KALLINIKOS and that of Axrida the one from Pelagonia, ARSENIOS who gave his resignations.

The following informations have been taken from PELASGON where they were posted by professor P. KARAISKAKIS on May the 8th 1920
